THANKFUL FOR TRUTH IN AN ERA OF BIG LIES 11/22/20:

As Thanksgiving Day approaches, I think to myself, “What is there for America to be most thankful for during this awful year?” The unlikely answer is that we should all be thankful for the news media. Not the commentators or talk show hosts, the ones who actually report what happened. Without mainstream media (MSM) reporting, we would believe a pack of lies instead of knowing the truth.
We would believe that a big beautiful wall has been built, and that it was paid for by Mexico. We would believe that President Obama was a Muslim terrorist leader who was born in Kenya. We would believe that Trump actually has a health care plan. We would believe that Trump has done more for black people than any president since Lincoln. We would believe that there were ‘very fine people’ on both sides at Charlottesville. We would believe than windmills cause cancer.
When it comes to Covid 19, without the faithful reporting of the MSM, we would believe that the Corona virus is a hoax; that it is magically disappearing; that people aren’t actually dying; that we are turning the corner; and that even if you do get infected, just take some hydroxychloroquine. We would believe that the virus is no worse than a case of sniffles. Without the MSM we would also believe that wearing a mask does nothing to stop the spread, but that mask wearing is instead some kind of mind control exercise designed to take away our freedom.
Without mainstream media, we would believe that the trade imbalance has improved under Trump. We would believe that Joe Biden is a doddering senile socialist pedophile. We would believe that the swamp has been drained and the corruption in Washington D.C. has been reduced. We would believe that Trump won the popular vote in both elections, and that there was widespread voter fraud in both elections. We would believe that Trump won the 2020 presidential election.
In other words, without the facts we would be raving lunatics. There are in truth a large number of people who ignore the facts and listen to commentators and spin doctors, and who believe some or all of the above.
This is just the short list. There are all kinds of crazy things that we would believe if it were not for the journalistic integrity and investigative capabilities of the hated mainstream media. They rely on multiple independent sources. They corroborate the facts before publishing. They do their homework. They subscribe to and operate within a code of ethics that sets a standard worldwide.
So when we think of heroes during these dark times, the maligned and falsely accused reporters who continue to uncover the facts should be at the top of the list. Thank God for them, because without them we could all be made into losers and suckers, and democracy would be replaced by tyranny.
